KALMA Foundation helps adult survivors of domestic violence move from immediate safety toward stable housing, financial recovery, and independent living through survivor-centered navigation, community partnerships, and carefully developed stabilization support.
Foundation-year gifts build the governance, safeguards, partnerships, community knowledge, and funding readiness required before future services can be offered responsibly.
A contribution supports KALMA's organizational readiness. It does not guarantee housing, rental assistance, emergency shelter, or direct client aid for any individual.
Six areas of first-year work.
Governance
Board recruitment and training, bylaws and policy development, registrations and filings, insurance, and the financial controls a responsible nonprofit needs before it serves anyone.
Partnership development
Time and travel to meet domestic violence, housing, legal, behavioral health, workforce, benefits, and family support providers across the Greater Prince William area.
Safety infrastructure
Privacy, consent, records-access, and mandatory-reporting policies, secure systems, and trauma-informed training so survivor information is handled correctly from day one.
Community listening
Structured conversations with survivors, providers, and public agencies to document the real barriers people face after crisis.
Resource verification
Checking, updating, and maintaining a local resource and referral network so the information KALMA shares is accurate.
Pilot preparation
Designing a measurable, fundable, partner-connected housing-stability pilot, including budget, eligibility, outcomes, and evaluation.
What contributions do not fund right now.
So donors know exactly what they are supporting, gifts made during the foundation-building year support organizational readiness and do not pay for:
- Guaranteed housing placement.
- Emergency shelter or hotel vouchers.
- Rental assistance or direct client aid.
- Legal representation, medical treatment, or clinical counseling.
- Guaranteed employment or long-term case management.
KALMA will add direct services only when it has the funding, staffing, training, partnerships, insurance, policies, and board approval to deliver them well. If a future fundraising appeal supports a specific direct-service purpose, that purpose and its eligibility terms will be stated separately and clearly.
